Dokic thrown a lifeline for aus open qualifiers by replacing the injured Nemanja Matic with the Serbian superstar who can match the power of his man-of-the-match performance in the knockout round at the Stade de France in Paris.

Matic was injured for his team’s first Champions League group game against Monaco on Tuesday night but he is expected to be back in the competition after a brief recovery, according to a statement issued by his agent, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

The statement also confirmed that the striker would return for France’s quarterfinal against Spain on April 19. The 27-year-old missed the final after suffering a severe knee injury but has returned and will not miss out on the chance to face the world’s best in his home country.

Matic is one of the most expensive players in world football. He cost City £50m from Real Madrid when they signed him in the summer of 2011 and he became a household na????me in Portugal and Europe with six goals and three assists in his country’s recent Eredivisie s?? ???uccess.

For City, the victory gives them a much-needed boost ahead of next Sunday’s Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal and could even secure them their first trophy since winning the Premier League title in 2013.

Matic said he is “cautiously optimistic” that he will be able to make it to Paris to watch his team take on the reigning French champions on Sunday night but added: “Everything goes the way I expect it to go.

“It’s a dream for me to play a friendlier game at this game. I’m feeling really good, but the only reason for this situation is that it takes time, I have time now to recover and I’m positive.

“I don’t think I will be hurt too much, it will be normal.”

City head coach Manuel Pellegrini, his squad and players are all united under a belief that Matic is still a vital piece to his side’s success next season.

City beat Barcelona 5-2 in the semi-finals and will now need to beat Arsenal on Sunday to secure a place in the quarterfinal of the Champions League for the first time since 2008. Pellegrini will be very cautious about whether or not the Serbia international can help City to a top four finish.

Anders Lindegaard, another key figure in City’s Champions League run, said Matic had not played well last se?? ???ason but that the injury meant the striker shoul
